 Consett Academy
Consett Academy

  Our community

  Our town

Blackhill park was a gift from the steel works to the people of consett for there hard work at the steel works. Now it is a beautiful place with greens, playgrounds, sporting grounds, fountains, forests and the most famous feature of all is the band stand. The Derwent Walk Country Park is a mixture of woodlands, meadows, wetlands, riverside and reclaimed industrial sites all linked by the Derwent Walk. The Derwent Walk is the track-bed of the old Derwent Valley Railway. It is 11 miles (18 km) long and follows the Derwent Valley between Swalwell in the north and Consett in the south.
Consett sits high on the edge of the Pennines. In 1841, it was a village community of only 145, but it was about to become a boom town: below the ground was coking coal and black band iron ore, and nearby was limestone. These were the three ingredients needed for blast furnaces to produce iron and steel.

  What is an academy?

  Our school

We have some amazing facilities such as; A state of the art theatre , a library, amazing science labs,4 giant sport fields, squash courts , music department, millions of pounds worth of Tec and much more! We have yummy lunch's which are wraps, sandwiches, pizza, pasta, hot meals and fish and chips!
Consett academy is a large school holding over 1,200 pupils. You get five lessons each day for one hour long. The school day starts at 8:45 and ends at 3:20 pm. Also you get 1 or sometimes even 2 language classes. We are really lucky because our school joins with the leisure centre next door where we do fitness and swimming.
